The Wintry Winery and Harvest Update

The weather has begun to lean toward winter at the ranch and the views are absolutely stunning!

The week past saw Block 9 Tannat harvested.  Latest word is that we’ll be bringing Block 10b Petite Sirah and Block 23 Petit Verdot early this coming week.  Expect some photos and video soon!

A wine fact for your trouble (shamelessly lifted at random from the Oxford Companion to Wine, 3rd Edition by Jancis Robinson and supplemented with information from http://www.wineaustralia.com):

The first established wine region in Australia is known as The Granite Belt.  Large temperature swings result from the area’s high altitude and contribute vast grape growing potential.  It lies deep in the south of Queensland and is home to producers Sirromet, Robert Channon, Boireann, Bald Mountain, Witches Falls, and Bungawarra Wines among others. Varieties grown here include: Verdelho, Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz (Syrah).
