Smoke Free Barns

No_smoking

According to Bob Macgillivray–during the illuminating tour mentioned in a previous post–this sign dates back to the property’s early days when Edwin Smith’s draft teams were responsible for bringing supplies in from San Simeon.  Prior to the existence of railways in the area, the barn housed multiple teams of draft horses rotating in and out to bring shipments in for the whole of Adelaida. Beyond the hilarity of the spelling, the sign is interesting as a relic, it is made from a single piece of heart-redwood and would be near impossible to find now as a building material given how precious redwood groves are.
